Boise State picks up Texas corner

Sugar Land (Texas) Kempner cornerback Quaylon Ewing has ended his recruitment. The 6-foot-1 180-pound speedster will be heading Northwest to Idaho and the always strong program of Boise State.
"I committed to Boise State yes sir," Ewing said. "I did it last Saturday. They've been talking to me for a while and one of my best friends is up there. He told me that they have good cornerbacks but I have the potential to start right away. If I work hard I could go up there and start."

While early playing time is clearly a factor, Ewing chose Boise State for several reasons, despite interest from programs such as Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston and UNLV.
"They've got a good program," he said. "They have good coaches. They've won titles and championships and stuff. I'm pretty solid about this one. I think they're going to open many doors for me, especially the coaches if I just focus."
Ewing's fortitude in his commitment has to have the Boise State coaching staff feeling good. While he has good size at 6-foot-1, Ewing has speed as well. In track, he was clocked at 10.7 seconds in the 100 meters and 22 seconds flat in the 200.
"Speed, that's what I'm known for," he said.
Ewing plans on taking an official visit to Boise State for the first game of the season in the fall.
