One of the best offensive line prospects in the country going into 2001 may also be the biggest. Max Jean-Gilles, of North Miami Beach Senior High School, stands 6-foot-5, 340 pounds and has been offered football scholarships by schools all over the country.
“I have over 30 offers,” Jean-Gilles said. “Miami, Nebraska, Florida, South Florida, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgia, Kansas State, Michigan, Iowa State, LSU, Penn State, and Arizona are some of the schools which have offered. It’s been hard to keep up with all of it.”
Jean-Gilles recorded over 100 pancake blocks as an offensive guard for North Miami Beach in 2000 as he helped his team to a 7-4 record and the schools’ first ever state playoff birth. In the process, he earned Second Team All Dade Country (Miami Area) honors and was a Third Team All-State selection.
Jean-Gilles said that he hasn’t given much thought to the recruiting process at this point. he has not narrowed down his list at this point.
Jean-Gilles said that he doesn’t have any serious interest in traditional in-state powers Florida State and Florida but will give the Hurricanes of Miami a good, long look.
When not on the gridiron, Jean-Gilles is often in the weight room. “I am a weight room freak,” Jean-Gilles said. “When I am not playing football, I am in the weight room constantly.” At 17 years of age, Jean-Gilles already has a 375-pound bench press and a 585 pound squat to his credit.
Jean-Gilles said that his primary focus would be to earn another playoff birth in 2001. “I want to go out this year and give my best effort and try to go out on top,” Jean-Gilles said. “We should have a great team and I feel that we can go all of the way this year.”
