Birdsong picks up another SEC offer

Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell Academy offensive lineman Joseph Birdsong is one of the top big men in the Volunteer State. He recently added his second SEC offer and could be close to a third.
“Right now I have offers from Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest,” Birdsong said. “I think that Auburn might be getting close to offering. I went to camp there this summer and they talked to my coach about me and told him that they were thinking about it.”

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman attended the NIKE camp in Atlanta in early May and also a team camp at Auburn.
“I’m not really looking at any schools in particular,” Birdsong said. “I’m looking at Vanderbilt, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Wake Forest and Mississippi State. I’m really looking at all of the SEC schools.”
He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.39 seconds at the NIKE camp. He ran the shuttle in 4.85 seconds, had a 23-inch vertical jump and did 20 reps on the bench press.
“I am thinking right now that I kind of want to go ahead and decide early, so I won’t be worrying about it during the season,” Birdsong said. “I won’t commit to early because I want to take some official visits. I’m probably going to decide sometime in the middle of the season.”
He was named to the division two class 3A all-state squad as well as The Tennessean second-team all-middle Tennessee.
“I have really noticed things picking up since the NIKE camp,” Birdsong said. “There were schools that I had never heard from before the camp like Mississippi State and Wake Forest and now they have offered. I think going to that camp really helped me a lot.”
