Big year equals big interest for Maryland DB

Indian Head (Md.) Lackey safety Antwan Smith put together a huge junior year. The 5-foot-11, 160-pounder accounted for 105 tackles, five interceptions, six pass breakups on his way to second team all-county and honorable mention all-conference honors. The big season has resulted in significant interest for the Maryland prospect.
"It was a good year," he said. "I think I showed I'm always aggressive and can come through with the big play. I still want to improve on my one-on-one covering skills."

With respect to recruiting, who has taken an interest in Smith?
"I've been getting letters from Purdue, LSU, Virginia Tech, Virginia and a couple of the Ivy League schools," he said. "I am planning to take a visit to Penn State on April 5th for an unofficial."
Two schools have already caught the eye of the Maryland defensive back.
"I really like Hawaii and Washington," he said. "I went on a vacation out to Hawaii and it was beautiful there. As for Washington, I've got family out there.
"In general, I'm looking for a good education. I haven't decided what I want to study, but I really want to learn how to coach. I'd also like to go to a warmer climate."
