Big weekend for Kyle Reed

It was a big weekend for Oakland (Calif.) McClymond's quarterback Kyle Reed . He took an unofficial visit to Cal with his parents and McClymond's head coach Alonzo Carter on Friday and told Bear head coach Jeff Tedford he was ready to commit. More good news came over the weekend when he was selected as the 6th quarterback for the EA SPORTS Elite 11 Quarterback camp.
"Oh man, that's been a goal of mine since the 10th grade," Reed said in response to being invited to the EA SPORTS Elite 11. "It shows me hard work really pays off because I've worked hard in order to make that camp. I remember when I was a sophomore and I heard about guys like Chris Leak, Kyle Wright and Dennis Dixon all being at the camp. It's very exciting for me and my family and I'm looking forward to getting out there."

Reed, a 6-2, 195 pound signal caller has a huge upside to him and combines great physical tools in terms of arm strength, release and athleticism with off the charts leadership ability. He has an infectious personality and is the kind of quarterback his teammates will rally around.
As a junior, Reed missed half of the season due to a hairline fracture in his thumb but still threw for 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns. He had a solid workout at the Nike Camp at Stanford a few weeks back but then really turned it on the following day at the EA SPORTS regional workout at Cal where he gave one of the best performances we saw by any quarterback this year.
As for his decision to commit to Cal, Reed said he decided he just wanted to end the process early and not deal with the calls or stress of recruiting any more.
"At first I wanted to take my trips but I knew Cal was the best place for me," Reed said. "I took my parents and Coach Carter up with me last Friday to meet with coach Tedford. I knew I was going to commit at that time but I wanted my parents to be there for it as well so they could have any of their questions answered. Cal was the first school to offer me back in the 10th grade and I know the school so well. I come up all the time and I know a lot of the players. I love Coach Tedford and the offense they run and I think I'll be a good fit for them.
"Now that I'm committed, I want to start recruiting some players to play with me. I got to know Desean Jackson pretty well at the Nike Camp and I'm going to call him and get in his ear a little. He's a great player and it would be fun to play with him."
