Big-time programs still after 2020 DE Sav'ell Smalls

Sav’ell Smalls could be one of the top defensive ends in the 2020 class. He’s big, he’s strong, he wreaks havoc in backfields.

And this past weekend the Seattle (Wash.) Garfield standout visited for Stanford’s impressive win over Oregon. The Cardinal has not offered yet but Smalls had a fantastic trip and no doubt Stanford will stay high on his list.

“It was a good visit, it was a good atmosphere and the place was beautiful,” Smalls said.

“They had professors and athletes from other sports there to just talk about the Stanford experience and what it’s like and it sounded great.”

Plenty of major offers have already come in for Smalls, who was told about Stanford’s approach to offering prospects - and maybe a hint on why he hasn’t received one yet.

“The coaches told me continue to get straight A’s and continue to put good things on film,” Smalls said. “They also said don’t be discouraged that they haven’t offered because their process takes much longer and they’re definitely interested.”

So far, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect has landed offers from Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC and Washington.

Because schools can’t talk much with Smalls since he’s a 2020 prospect, he’s getting word from his coaches at Seattle Garfield about which programs are showing new interest.

The list is impressive.

“Since they can’t communicate with me I don’t really know because I know what coach tells me but coach has told me Clemson is interested, Penn State has sent some things, pretty sure Washington State and Georgia has sent letters,” Smalls said.
