Damien Mama and Joe Mixon have talked about the possibility of playing together in college so it's no coincidence that they've booked an official visit to Wisconsin for the same weekend.
Mama, a four-star offensive guard from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, will join the five-star running back from Northern California at Wisconsin in mid-October when the Badgers host Northwestern.
"Wisconsin is o-line university and running back university," Mama said. "We've talked about the possibility of going to the same school and a degree from Wisconsin means something. It's a great university."
The 6-foot-5, 360-pound prospect who shined this summer at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Chicago was planning to take an unofficial visit to Madison this summer but that trip never materialized.
Mama said he has a good understanding with the Wisconsin coaches that they're not overly assertive in recruiting him but they know the four-star standout is still very interested in the Badgers. Getting up there in October could prove important.
"So far, they've left me alone which I really enjoy and I think it's pretty cool," Mama said. "They've given me my space and they know that they're there. They want me to know they're there for me and they're still in the running."
The only other official visit Mama has scheduled is at Alabama for the LSU game. The St. John Bosco standout said he's still highly considering Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and Notre Dame for trips.
Mixon has an official visit scheduled for Florida when it hosts Tennessee so that might be a possibility for Mama as well. The local schools - USC and UCLA - along with other Pac-12 programs like Utah are still being considered by Mama, but official visits aren't expected there.
