Position: Wide Receiver
Size and speed: Urrutia is 6-foot-5 1/2, weighs 195 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds.
Statistics: As a junior, he caught 65 passes for 1,075 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also stars in basketball, averaging 16 points and nine rebounds per game.
Honors: Was selected honorable mention all-state as a junior.
Favorite Schools: Committed to Kentucky.
Skinny: New Kentucky coach Rich Brooks has picked up his first commitment for the Class of 2004 in Louisville Fern Creek’s Mario Urrutia.
The big receiver received a scholarship offer last week and wasted little time in deciding that the Wildcats were the right fit.
“They have shown a lot of interest in me and it really seems like a good school," Urrutia told The Cats’ Pause. "They were the first ones to offer me a scholarship, so I jumped on it.
“I really liked the new staff. Coach (Joker) Phillips is a nice, cool guy. I related well to him.”
Urrutia also had early interest from Michigan and Louisville.
His younger brother, Maurice (6-4, 185) is a high-profile junior-to-be and figures to be on many recruiting lists for 2005.
