Big SEC visit planned for Mathis

Joe Mathis has talked about a few schools in particular the last few months and now a major SEC program has entered those discussions.
The four-star defensive end from Upland, Calif., has heard much more from Alabama recently and Mathis said he's planning to visit with the Crimson Tide sometime this season.

"It's going to be cool," Mathis said. "It's going to be crazy because football out there is really crazy and I want to see how it is. I want to see if I like it.
"They've been trying to get me on campus. They've been hitting me up a lot and saying a lot of good things and showing they want me."
A few other visits are being planned by Mathis, rated as the No. 10 strong-side defensive end and No. 151 prospect in the 2013 class by Rivals.com.
The Upland standout plans to visit Utah for the Cal matchup in late October, he's setting up his trip to Washington - where he had been previously committed - and a visit to Texas A&M could also happen although no date has been set.
Mathis, who already has eight sacks through five victories this season, said Saturday he was watching the replay of Washington's upset win against Stanford and he was impressed with how the Huskies are playing.
"I'm watching the replay," Mathis said. "I have it recorded and I'm watching it. I like Washington. They're really cool and they're an up-and-coming program. They're still in it."
As for Mathis, his season is going well. He is putting up nice numbers even though he's the focus of many offensive lines and his team is undefeated. A big matchup against Chris Hawkins, Tahaan Goodman and Rancho Cucamonga is coming Friday night.
"It's going cool so far," Mathis said. "I have eight sacks on the season. It's going pretty good for me. I'm taking a lot of double teams, a lot of triple teams and a lot of holding."
