Big schools eye talented PA kicker

Kickers often go unnoticed in recruiting circles, but every year there are a few that stick out from the bunch. One that has a chance to is Lancaster (Pa.) Manheim Township kicker David Soldner. Already the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is garnering interest from the ACC, Big East and Big Ten.
"I've gotten mail from Georgia Tech, Connecticut, West Virginia, Duke and Michigan is most of them," he said. "I actually didn't grow up watching football. I watched and played a lot of soccer, but I do like Penn State. I know they've got a solid team and I like coach Paterno."

With a wide variety of schools looking, what does Soldner want in a college?
"I want to play big-time football, but then I'm also looking for a school," he said. "I'm interested in business and language and I'd prefer to stay on the East Coast if I can."
As far as his ability, Soldner has a booming leg making a 48-yarder in-game and a 57-yarder in practice. He also made 38 of 39 extra points and 11 of 14 field goals as a junior on his way to first team all-state and second team all-American.
"I'd say my best attribute on the field is my consistency," he said. "I also don't get too mad or upset if I miss a kick. I just move on to the next one."
Later this month, Soldner plans to participate in the Chris Sailer kicking camp.
