Big OT working to get qualified

Baton Rouge (La.) Deisre Street Academy offensive tackle Brandon Haskins is one of the top offensive linemen in the state of Louisiana. Consequently, you would expect Haskins to have an extensive offer list. However, the offers have yet to come for Haskins for one main reason.

"I'm really waiting on my ACT score," Haskins said. "I made a 14 on it the first time but once I get my score I'll be alright."

Haskins isn't set to take the test again until February so he likely won't be signing anywhere on signing day but he has still had some interest from major programs of late.

"Auburn, they got new coaches and the new ones are starting to talk to me again," he said. "Oklahoma was talking and Tennessee. They had a coach from Northern Illinois stop into the school. I talked to him. He was just trying to set up a visit for me to come up there. He was trying to get my highlight film and my transcript and everything."

Though Haskins is working hard to raise his test score, he is realistic that he may have to resort to other options in college.

"If I don't get the score, I was thinking about going to junior college," he said. "I've been studying Thursdays in an ACT book and stuff."

Other than studying and preparing for the ACT, Haskins has been staying in shape on the basketball court, playing center for his team. On the football field, Haskins finished the season with 50 tackles from his defensive tackle spot and 52 pancakes from his offensive tackle spot.
