Big offers rollin' in for 2022 Georgia athlete

After a sophomore season of over 70 tackles and 21 sacks, Cedric Washington has seen his recruitment take off.

On December 23, the 6-foot-2, 219 pound athlete out of Cedartown (Ga.) picked up offers from Georgia and Tennessee. One day later, on Christmas Eve, Georgia Tech offered.

Before that flurry of offers, Washington had offers from Coastal Carolina, Louisville and Nebraska.

The new offers right before Christmas all surprised Washington with the timing, but he knew one of the schools could have been close to pulling the trigger.

"Tennessee surprised me some and Georgia Tech really shocked me, but Georgia was the one school out of the three that had been showing me a lot of interest," said Washington. "I had been talking to Georgia and visiting there for a couple of years, so I knew they had interest in me.

"All three offers are big to me and I am going to look at each of them now."

With his familiarity of the school in Athens, combined with the Bulldogs being the school Washington grew up a fan of; that has put Georgia on top of his list.

"I grew up a big fan of Georgia," said Washington. "I can't even explain what that offer means to me. It was my dream school, so it is really a blessing to get that offer.

"I have been to Georgia a lot, so I know a lot about them. I like how they play, the fans are great and they have some great coaches. I know coach McGee well, I know coach Schumann and I know coach Kirby Smart.

"I like it there a lot."

He has yet to visit Georgia Tech, but Washington was in Knoxville when the Vols hosted Georgia.

"That was my only visit to Tennessee, and I had a good time there. There is a lot of history at Tennessee, it was cool to see all that in the locker room and I liked it a lot.

"I also liked the coaches there. The coaches and players there seemed to have a nice respect for each other."

Washington is now looking more into Georgia Tech and he is likely to visit the Flats in the coming months.

These new offers won't be the last, and they won't slow Washington down.

"This is what I work for and I just want to keep getting better," said Washington. "I am going to work even harder now. I just want to keep these offers and add more if schools like me."

Washington had has big names ahead of him at Cedartown. Kobe Pryor is part of the Clemson 2020 class and Tony Mathis signed with West Virginia in 2019. Nick Chubb came before those guys. He has talked to them all about recruiting.

"They all say the same thing to me — stay humble. They just tell me to keep working, not to worry about recruiting and to stay humble. That is what I plan to do."

Schools are offering Washington as an athlete right now. He is likely an outside linebacker on the next level, but he is a talented running back too. He rushed for four touchdowns behind Pryor in 2019. With Pryor moving on to Clemson, Washington will carry a bigger load on offense in 2020.
