Big Magnolia WR getting lots of interest

While the talent in Mississippi may not be as top heavy as in years past it runs very deep in the Magnolia State for the class of 2005. One player that not many have heard of yet, but is beginning to raise eyebrows throughout the South is Brookhaven wide receiver/tight end Bud Chapman.
“I don’t have any offers yet, but I am getting interest from just about everybody,” said Chapman. “The school recruiting me the hardest right now is Alabama, but I am hearing from a lot of schools everyday by mail.”

It isn’t hard to figure out what makes Chapman such an attractive prospect from the start. At 6-foot-4, 232 pounds Chapman plays wide receiver in high school, but with his size some schools are looking at him as a tight end.
“My top five schools are Florida State, Alabama, LSU, Florida and Miami. I grew up a Florida State fan and that is kind of my dream school. At first I thought that I might want to stay close to home and I do want to stay in the southeast, but I want to get out of Mississippi.”
Chapman runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, has a 255 pound bench press and 410 pound squat.
“I know that when people look at me they think I will be a tight end in college, but I want to be a wide receiver. My main goal in college will be winning a championship and I want to go to a program where I will have the chance to do that and also play early.”
Chapman only caught 19 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns as a junior in a very wide open offense that likes to spread the ball around a lot.
“I think what makes me such a good player is my work ethic. I want to be the best and I know I won’t get there without working harder than other guys. A lot of guys have a hard time covering me because of my size, but because I am so big I have to work hard to keep my speed up.”
