Big DE Martin pulls in his first offer

Roanoke Rapids, N.C. defensive end Kareem Martin has pulled in his first offer. The massive 6-foot-6, 215-pound prospect landed his first scholarship from the ACC.
"I have one offer from Duke," he said. "I got that on January 15th. I was really excited about it being my first offer.

"It means I have somewhere I can play and play for a team. I can make an impact. I appreciate that. I like Duke, I especially like the academics."
Duke isn't the only school interested in Martin.
"I've been in touch with East Carolina, Virginia and I've gotten letters from Auburn, Georgia, NC State and Georgia Tech."
Martin grew up a fan of one college.
"I grew up a fan of North Carolina," he said. "Since recruiting has started though, I've let the fan aspect go.
"My dad liked North Carolina and I know a couple guys that have gone there and played on the team."
As he is starting to look at his options, what does Martin want in a college?
"I want great academics just in case there isn't a chance for the next level," he said. "I want to get a great job in my degree, business. I want a decent football team and a good program. I'd kind of like to stay close to home."
The Carolina prospect plans to take a visit in the coming weeks to East Carolina for their junior day.
Last season he posted 121 tackles, five sacks, three forced fumbles, two blocks on his way to conference defensive player of the year.
"I think my best attributes as a player are my long arms," he said. "That allows me to bat down passes. I also have good quickness off the ball.
"I want to improve on my strength and speed even more."
Martin is also a basketball player that averages 15-points a game.
