Big 12 offer is first for Slaughter

Linebacker Blake Slaughter figured a few weeks ago that the first scholarship offer may be around the corner from Kansas State. This past week, his theory turned out to be correct.
Slaughter, a 5-foot-11, 214-pound inside linebacker from Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Elkins received his first offer from Kansas State. With the papers arriving in hand today, he said that it was an exciting moment.

"I got the offer in the mail and I'm real excited," Slaughter said. "It's just been real exciting around here. Things have really been picking up. I had been talking with coach (Mo) Latimore for a while and it seemed like they were really interested.
"The first I found out about was he text messaged me about being offered. He told me it would be in the mail soon."
Not only is Kansas State a program that made the first offer but it's one that Slaughter has a lot of interest in.
"Well, I'm really big on Big 12 football," Slaughter said. "Kansas State was definitely up there since I watched them play in the bowl game against Rutgers. I just like the way their defense is run and I've been getting correspondence from them for a while. They rank real high among schools as far as academics, so that's a plus for me as well."
Next up for Slaughter is a trip to Houston for their junior day this weekend. He has previously visited Rice and SMU. Vanderbilt and Rice are two other schools that Slaughter says are showing a lot of interest at this point.
As for when he'd like to finish up with the recruiting process and make a decision, Slaughter says that he would like it to be sooner rather than later.
"I would definitely like to make a commitment before the season starts," Slaughter said. "I would like to get the recruiting process over by then if possible. If there are still schools on the borderline with offers, I might wait until after the season. But, if I can, I want to be done before the season."
