BGSU lands St. Louis LB Devin Ruffin

St. Louis (Mo.) Lutheran North High has four prospects in their 2018 class with Power Five offers, and two of them announced commitments on Wednesday. For three-star linebacker Devin Ruffin the choice was to take his talents to the Mid-American Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The offer list for Ruffin featured Power Five programs Iowa State, Minnesota and Syracuse, but he chooses Bowling Green over those programs in an upset. Ruffin and his teammates made numerous campus visits this off-season and were able to experience a range of campuses and opportunities. In the end, the relationships at Bowling Green allowed them to win the three-star prospect’s commitment.

QUOTABLE

“They have made a tremendous effort in recruiting him. Coach Brock, the linebackers coach, has been with him since day one and was his first offer. We got a chance to go up and visit Bowling Green over spring break and they had a great plan for how they wanted to use him defensively.” -Lutheran North head coach Carl Reed

RIVALS’ REACTION

Ruffin is a stout, inside linebacker who is at his best filling gaps and stuffing ball carriers up the middle. As a junior he racked up over 80 tackles manning the middle linebacker role for Lutheran North. For Bowling Green this commitment furthers an impressive 2018 class that already features three-stars Patrick Lupro and Onyx Smith.
