(photo) (6-2, 180, 4.6) from Carmichael (Calif.) Jesuit is the type of signal caller that is in vogue these days. Bacher (pronounced Ba-shay) is a playmaking field general who makes plays with his arm and his feet.
Bacher passed for 1,932 yards, 12 touchdowns while completing 63% of his passes. He added another 170 yards on the ground and scored four rushing touchdowns.
Bacher is also a tremendous winner who hasn’t lost a game a starter for Jesuit high. His record is 31-0. He went 13-0 in 2002, and his play earned him all-state honorable mention as a junior.
One thing that all successful quarterbacks have is intelligence and Bacher definitely has a sharp mind. He carries a 4.5 GPA and scored a 1290 SAT.
Oregon State, Northwestern, Boise State, Sacramento State, Utah, and Utah State have all offered Bacher a scholie.
Rudy Carpenter (6-3, 190, 4.7) from Westlake, Calif., fits the bill of being an athletic quarterback. What makes Carpenter extremely hard on a defense is he’s great throwing on the run and he is very accurate with his throws.
To give you an idea how athletic Carpenter is he was an all-county and all-league performer as a sophomore as a utility player. He played quarterback, wide receiver, returned punts and punted during his sophomore season.
Carpenter threw for 3,125, 32 touchdowns and 19 picks as a junior. Many of his picks should have been completes but the ball bounced off a wide receiver into the waiting hands of a defender.
Though his team didn’t many games, Carpenter was still voted League Offensive Player of the Year. Carpenter was also selected first-team all-CIF, first-team all-county and second-team all-state as a junior.
Carpenter has verbal offers from Michigan, Wyoming, San Diego State and Oregon State with pending offers from Fresno State and USC.
Carpenter’s top nine schools at this time are Oregon, Michigan, Colorado, USC, UCLA, Washington State, Washington, Miami and San Diego State. He is being recruited as both a quarterback and as an athlete.
Max Hall (6-1, 175, 4.7) from Mesa (Ariz.) Mountain View has bloodlines that go back two generations. His grandfather is former Arizona State Sun Devil great Whizzer White and his uncle is former ASU and Dallas Cowboy standout Danny White.
Hall had a 54% completion percentage for his junior season, while throwing for 2,384 yards and 26 touchdowns, giving up eight interceptions. He also carried the ball 43 times for 109 yards, and four touchdowns.
Hall was named Area Offensive Player of the Year and was second-team all-state as a junior. He was also one of five finalists for the Ed Doherty award given to the state's most outstanding player.
Hall has offers from Arizona State, Washington State and BYU.
Darren Mougey (6-4, 175, 4.53) from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral is another signal caller out west who could be recruited as an athlete, but most like his quarterbacking skills. He can beat with his arm and his legs.
Mougey threw for 2,129 yards for 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions as a junior. He is also picked up for 308 yards rushing and scored nine touchdowns on the ground. Needless to say he was instrumental in leading his team to the State 4A Championship in 2002
Mougey was selected second-team all-state, second-team all-region and was selected Area Offensive Player of the Year for his junior season performance.
Mougey has offers from Vandy, Arizona State, San Diego State and Northwestern with an offer pending from Colorado State.
Gary Rogers (6-5, 225, 4.8) from Mukilteo (Wash.) Kamiak made his college choice known early in the recruiting process when he chose Washington State over the likes of Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona State, Northwestern and Michigan State.
Rogers gave his verbal commitment to the Cougars in early May.
Kamiak high school is fast becoming a quarterback hotbed. Rogers is the fourth straight signal caller from the school to get a scholarship to play college football.
Rogers is more of the traditional Wazzu quarterback of Drew Bledsoe and Ryan Leaf. He has good feet and pocket awareness. Like most Cougar quarterbacks of late Rogers has a strong arm. He is also very poised and sees the field well.
Rogers completed 55.9 percent of his passes last season for 1,560 yards, with 14 touchdown passes and five interceptions as a junior
