Best linebacker in San Diego

One college coach calls him the top linebacker in San Diego and another calls him a sure-fire Division I prospect. All of those things are flattering to San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine outside linebacker Bobby Erskine, who just now personally understands how talented he is.
"I'm fast for a bigger guy," Erskine said. "I can judge where the play is going right when it happens, and I can get through the line pretty well when I'm blitzing. I need to gain some weight before next season. I'm not small, but I'm at 210 right now and I want to be about 220 or 225 by next season and maybe get my 40-time below 4.7.

"I try to model myself after Brian Urlacher or Teddy Bruschi. I just try to keep focused and be mentally strong and keep my mind on the game and the things that are going on."
Even though he's getting plenty of attention early on, Erskine said he's going to be excited to get that first offer.
"Whatever college offers me a scholarship will be the schools I look at," he said. "I want to play with a scholarship. If I have a few offers then it will be whatever football program I like the best. Maybe which school has the best location for me along with what I've heard about the coaches and the program overall."
Erskine some pretty regular attention from schools from all over the map.
"Boston College, Colorado, Arizona and some other schools like that have been sending me mail," he said. "I haven't received anything as far as offers, but I've been hearing from a bunch of different schools.
"I'm going to the USD camp over the summer and I think I may try going to a few others, but I don't have any in mind right now."
With football season around the corner, Erskine has been playing basketball and preparing for track.
"I'm playing varsity basketball right now, and I'm considering doing the shotput for track," he said. "We won our league in basketball this season, and we're the No. 1-seed in the state tournament. Last year we went all the way to the championship and lost, but I think we're going to do really well this year. We have a bunch of seniors who have been there."
