Berry solidifies commitment to the Canes

Rivals250 safety Damien Berry took an official visit to Miami this weekend, the school he originally committed to back in June. The Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central prospect was looking for a feeling on his visit; did he find it in South Beach?
"I recommitted to Miami," he said. "I went down there for the visit and everything was what I expected and more. I got to hang out with the players including Kenny Phillips and Randy Phillips as well as the coaches. They are like a big happy family there and that's all you need is family.

"I think they've got the formula to be a championship team. I went to LSU and I just didn't get that same feeling there. I really felt for the school."
Of course, the coaches helped too.
"Coach Shannon is a great guy," he said. "He and my dad played together and I had a good time with him. The fact that he's head coach now added to me choosing them, but I'm not going there because of the coach. He could be gone soon since it's a business, I do think he'll be sticking around for a while though."
The four-star prospect will get a chance to potentially play right away for the Hurricanes.
"Coach Shannon told me if I come in and play hard I'll get a chance to play," he said. "He told me they just won't give it to me and that's what I expected and want. I want to compete for the job and fight for it. Kenny Phillips has even said he'll help me out once I get there."
