Bernard up to 19 offers

Giovanni Bernard is one of the top running backs from the state of Florida. Bernard, now 5-8.5 and 199 pounds, is from Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He now has 19 scholarship offers with his three most recent from Oklahoma, Nebraska and South Florida.
"I have always been an Oklahoma fan, especially since Adrian Peterson was there," Bernard said. "I love their zone (rushing) offense. I would love to play for a team like that. I had a good talk with their running back coach (Cale Gundy). That's one team I will be interested in.

"I don't know too much about Nebraska. I plan on calling those coaches.
"USF is close to home and that will always play a factor for me. That's a program on the rise and I would love to help them out. I have not talked with any of those coaches yet."
Other than the Sooners, Bernard has also spoken with Oregon State, West Virginia, Florida State, Florida, Miami, Notre Dame and Maryland.
"It has helped me getting to know some of the guys (coaches), what they like and how they sound. I got a good feel for some of these schools."
Last season as a junior Bernard helped St. Thomas Aquinas to a state championship after rushing for 1,528 yards and 18 touchdowns. What will he do for an encore?
"I am getting excited about spring ball and this season. I weighed in at 199 pounds (193 pounds last season). I have gotten faster. I just want to do a little better. I share time. I just want to win, get my average up and get better on all the little things. I need to make myself a better player."
