Cleveland Glenville defensive back V'Angelo Bentley was on the official visit to Illinois with teammate Justin Hardee when Hardee committed to the Illini this weekend. Bentley talked about whether he was close to doing the same.
"It put a thought in my head, but I haven't come to a decision yet," Bentley said. "It's always good to go with someone you know, but I'm just trying to make the best decision for me."
This weekend's trip to Illinois consisted of familiar faces in an unfamiliar place for Bentley, but the Cleveland native quickly acclimated himself to his surroundings.
"I kind of know that coaching staff because they were recruiting me when they were at Toledo. This was about seeing the facilities that they moved up to," Bentley said. "I liked the academic setup. Your classes within your department would be in the same area, so that was kind of neat."
Whether or not Illinois is the right fit for him is something Bentley will evaluate in the coming days. This was his third official visit of the process, and his second this month.
"I went to Toledo last weekend," Bentley said. "That coaching staff wasn't really new because I had known them from recruiting at my school. The head coach was the recruiting guy for our area, so it wasn't like I had to learn a whole new staff."
Two of Bentley's teammates - cornerback Sean Draper and defensive tackle Willie Henry - took official visits to Pitt this past weekend. Bentley had officially visited Pitt in December, but has not been in contact with the Panther's new coaching staff.
With a week and a half left before National Signing Day, Bentley has not closed to door to anyone and would welcome new interest.
"I'm still pretty open to everything," he said. "I'm looking forward to hearing from some teams that didn't get the commitment they wanted to get."
Schools like Iowa and Kansas are still in the mix for Bentley, though neither has offered yet. He plans to leave the final official visit weekend of the process open in case new opportunities arise this week.
"It's open right now and I don't know where I am going to go," Bentley said.
Offers have also come in from Air Force and several MAC programs. Bentley is still considering all those programs and a decision is not expected until closer to National Signing Day.
