"I've been talking to coach Hofher a lot. He was just saying they're really interested in me and want to get to know me. Then today I was just checking in with him and he said he was going to go ahead and offer," Benjamin said . "I'm not too familiar with all the coaches out there but the coach who offered seems like a very nice guy and like he could be very relatable to all the athletes out there."
On Tuesday the Kansas Jayhawks extended an offer. His head coach pulled him into the office and let Benjamin know coach Kenny Perry. He is still gathering information but he does know a little with teammate Aubrey White currently committed to the Jayhawks.
Benjamin's first offer arrived in December from the Iowa Hawkeyes.
"I was in class and I got called out of class and I got called out of class and they wanted to watch my film," Benjamin said. "Midway through the film he was talking about how he was going to get the head coach down here to offer. So a couple of hours later my coach called me back down and told me they went ahead and offered. That was December 4."
In addition to picking up offers, Benjamin has also been taking visits. One of his first stops was to Baylor. He is familiar with the Baylor program since he grew up a fan of the Bears.
"Really it was just the fact that they run the spread offense and it's quick just like we do here in high school. And they can run the ball too," Benjamin said.
The visit to Waco did not disappoint.
"Well, I think coach Briles is doing something good," Benjamin said. "You can't just go back-to-back winning Big 12 titles like that. There's something he's doing and I think what they're doing is great."
He has also been able to check out SMU.
"Well, seeing them make their presentation really hit about what kind of program they're trying to turn SMU into," Benjamin said. "And all those coaches said they'd been working with each other for three months but it seemed like they'd been working with each other for longer."
Staying in the Dallas area, Benjamin was also able to visit North Texas.
"I would say the same thing. Those coaches out there have a great relationship with each other," Benjamin said. "Coach McCarney is turning the program around and they're focused on grades as well as playing well."
Next the standout running back plans to visit Texas Tech, and he is also looking to take visits to Oklahoma and Arkansas.
He is keeping his college options open at the moment and he has turned his attention to soccer. Benjamin plays select soccer as well as varsity soccer and is receiving mail from Ohio State and Penn State for his soccer abilities. After soccer Benjamin plans to run the 4x100m and 4x200m for the Wylie East track team.
As a sophomore, Benjamin rushed for 1,724 yards and 25 touchdowns on 269 carries. He also had five receptions for 95 yards and another touchdown.
