Behind the Commitment: How Georgia Tech landed Jaquari Wiggles

Georgia Tech has some real momentum on the recruiting, especially in their home-state, and they just landed a commitment from jumbo-athlete Jaquari Wiggles.

The 6-foot-3, 251 pound defensive end out of Atlanta (Ga.) Mays was recently leaning towards an SEC school, but things changed earlier this month and he chose to stay home.

Wiggles tells the story behind his commitment.

THE BEGINNING

"Not too long ago, Tennessee was definitely my top school," said Wiggles. "When they offered me [in January], they were at the top right away. I went up there for a visit, I liked it a lot and I was not really thinking about Georgia Tech at that time.

"Georgia Tech started getting more involved about a week or two after coach Geoff Collins got the job. Him and his staff were at Temple, and they were recruiting me there, so I knew them, they knew me and I knew I liked the new staff at Georgia Tech.

"I started visiting Georgia Tech, I started to like the school, and they started moving up my list. I still had Tennessee on top for a while, but the more I visited Georgia Tech, the more I liked it there."

THE TURN

"Georgia Tech really made the move for me when Jalen Huff committed. When he flipped from Oklahoma to Georgia Tech, that was big for me. Me and Jalen play on the 7-on-7 team, so we have talked about colleges many times, so when he told me was about to flip, it really had me thinking that Tech might be the place for me too.

"At that time (April 3), Georgia Tech made the move for me. I had been there two or three times, I knew some of their commitments, and that is when they took over on top of my list.

"The relationship I have with the staff, how they communicate with me every day and just how they talk to me about life showed me they really want me. I have had them on top for a few weeks now."

THE FINALE

"I made my decision last week and I told coach Collins about my decision about a week and a half ago. I was talking with Tyson Meiguez (Committed to the Yellow Jackets earlier this week), and we were talking about Georgia Tech, how he liked it, and we really figured out we felt the same way about the school.

"We talked about it, we told each other that we were going to commit and that was it.

"It is a great feeling to be committed now. It is a relief. I have been wondering who would be the fit for me and now I know it is Georgia Tech. It is close to home, it is a great degree and they have made me feel comfortable.

"I am ready to recruit others now. My first target is Javon Baker (Alabama commit). I am going to try to make Georgia Tech and the city of Atlanta hot again. That is what I am focused on."
