Beery sees IU as a special place

Indiana came through with the first offer for Carmel, Ind., 2017 defensive end Britt Beery last month, and the in-state lineman is impressed with what he has seen in Bloomington.
"I took my first visit up there and was really excited to be on the campus," Beery said. "I really enjoyed the coaches there and it was a really good visit. I was surprised to get the offer, but it just reminded me to get better."

Beery picked up his offer from the Hoosiers while attending their Sept. 5 home football game, during which they explained what impressed them about the 6-foot-7, 240-pound prospect.
"One thing that they did say about me was they really liked my athleticism, my quickness and my frame," Beery said. "They said my frame was a really big thing that contributed to that offer because they looked at me as a guy who could play offense or defense."
Beery primarily plays defensive end for a 7-2 Carmel team, and has tallied 45 tackles on the season from that position. When it comes to college, though, he is open to playing any position and is excited to go through the recruiting process with the Hoosiers.
"It was very good to get my first offer from Indiana," Beery said. "It was a great visit, like I said, a very special place and the coaches were all unbelievable. But, right now I am just having fun with the recruiting process and keeping everything open, enjoying every place that I go and visit that I take."
Other Big Ten programs showing strong interest in Beery include Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan State. He made a game visit to Northwestern the weekend of Nov. 17.
"Going to Northwestern was incredible," Beery said. "It was a really cool campus and I enjoyed that. All their coaches were really incredible. I talked with coach Chris Bowers a lot and just the feel at Northwestern was really cool. They have some big plans coming for the future as well."
Carmel is heading into the sectional championship this upcoming weekend, so all future visits are tentative at this point. He is aiming to see an SEC school before the college football season ends, though.
"I'm taking a visit to Vanderbilt sometime soon," Beery said. "We were going to try and make it down there the 21st of November, but that just depends on my season. The 21st game will be against Texas A&M and that will be a really good game."
