Wilmington (N.C.) New Hanover offensive tackle Nick Becton has gained a third scholarship in recent weeks. Who has pulled the trigger on offering the 6-foot-6, 285-pounder?
"I've got one from South Carolina along with NC State and East Carolina," he stated. "I like the school and I'll probably go down there for camp. I want to go and check it out so I can get to know the staff better. Honestly I don't know too much about them yet and want to find out more."
Becton believes a couple more schools may offer in the near future.
"Stanford and Maryland seem close to offering. My coach is telling me that they are showing a lot of interest and talking to him."
At this time, the North Carolina prospect is favoring three schools.
"I'd probably say that NC State, Alabama and South Carolina are my favorites," he said. "I went down to South Carolina for their spring game and enjoyed that a lot. I didn't get to see too much when I was there. As for Alabama, I saw their facilities and they were really nice. I like the coaches too. Finally, I've been to North Carolina State a few times and know more about their program."
Last week Becton participated in a combine in Charlotte.
"I did alright there," he said. "I found out I ran a 5.24 in the 40-yard dash and a 4.72 in the shuttle. I think I did ok, but I could probably improve on everything still."
