Beach lineman is starting to get looks

Colleges are seeing the potential in Virginia Beach (Va.) Kellam offensive lineman Ross Ward. The 6-foot-4, 248-pounder is getting looks from a variety of schools across the region.
"I've gotten letters from East Carolina, LSU and Duke," he said. "That's about it so far."

Ward has made it no secret his desire to stay local if possible.
"I'd like to go in-state," he said. "I'd like not to be too far away. I like it cause I'll be able to come back home and see my family. I know a lot of people from Kellam have gone to Virginia Tech. Tech is like a branch school and they are a really good team. I like watching them play."
Obviously location could be a factor, what else is Ward looking for in a school?
"Well, I want to get my education first, that's big. I'm thinking about criminal justice or law or perhaps health, anatomy," he said. "I'd like the opportunity to possibly go to the next level if I have the skills."
Mostly a blocking tight end, Ward caught 20 receptions as a junior.
"I think I improved from my sophomore year," he said. "We run the ball a lot, so I do a lot of run blocking. I think I have good size and explosiveness. I also have pretty good footwork since I play basketball too."
