BC legacy to follow in dad’s footsteps

Warrick (R.I.) Bishop Hendricken defensive tackle Scott Manni grew up cheering for Boston College, and with good reason. His dad, Steve Manni, played offensive line for the Eagles. Will this loyalty as a child grow into a signature on the dotted line next February?
A two-year starter for Bishop Hendricken, the younger Manni has utilized his size and skill on the defensive side of the ball. Although unsure of his stats, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound tackle runs the 40-yard dash in 5.0 seconds and made the all-city and third team all-division squads as a junior. He has a bench max of 280 pounds and a squat max of 365 pounds.

“I am a hard worker and a vicious player,” Manni described himself. He patterns his technique after Warren Sapp, and looks up to Sapp as his star player.
While Scott grew up cheering for Boston College, Michigan State and Utah are other schools he is considering in the early stages of recruiting. He has received letters from all three, but is also looking at other options.
He has attended camps at BC the last three years and has also been to the Joe Namath camp the last two summers. He plans to go to Michigan and Michigan State this upcoming summer, along with several others, although has yet to decide where. He went to the BC spring game last year and also attended the BC - Wake Forest game last fall.
While looking at proximity to home, Manni has only one criterion.
“I definitely want to get out of Rhode Island,” he said.
