Baylor head coach Matt Rhule and his staff continued another busy week of recruiting with another 2017 commitment earlier today. College Station corner Timarcus Davis, a longtime Houston commitment, announced his decision to join Coach Rhule and the Baylor 2017 class.

Davis holds over 20 scholarship offers from programs across the country and verbally committed to Houston this past June, but the Baylor program was always part of the standout prospect's recruitment.

"Baylor has been a part of my recruiting process since the beginning, even with the old staff" Davis said. "That is how my relationship started with Baylor. I was recruited by Coach (Carlton) Buckels and Coach (Chris) Dishman mostly, but I also spoke with Coach (Phil) Bennett a few times.

"Once the new staff arrived, maybe a few days later, I started speaking with them as well. Coach (Fran) Brown is my main contact, plus the new head coach Matt Rhule. There are a couple of other coaches, but those are the two coaches I have talked with the most.

"We talk a lot about the game, and they know that I'm very athletic, very smart and someone who can read plays. The coaches also like my quick twitch ability on the field."

The changes at Houston seemed to help the new staff at Baylor, who offered Davis only two days ago.

"I was recently told that you shouldn't pick a coach, you should pick a school," Davis said. "I have visited Baylor a bunch of times, Houston and Baylor were the two schools that I visited the most. I knew that Baylor would be a great academic opportunity, plus I knew there would be more opportunity on the field with the changes.

"The Baylor program has been winning the past few years and I knew it would be a competitive opportunity for me."

The 6-foot, 165-pound corner is scheduled to officially visit Baylor next month and plans to learn more about the academics available in Waco.

"I will be there for my official visit on Jan. 20th," Davis said. "I'm looking to learn more about the math and science departments."

Rated a 5.7 three-star prospect, Davis chose the Bears over offers from Arkansas, Purdue, Iowa State, Arizona and several others.
