Baylor snaggs early commitment

Score one for the Baylor Bears for the Class of 2003. One of the top players at the Rivals100 Metroplex Junior Day on Saturday announced that he had made a commitment to the Bears.
“I’m committed to Baylor,” said Palestine, Texas, defensive tackle Jonathan Cary said. “I was looking for a place that I really felt like I belonged at, and that was Baylor.”

Cary said he was getting interest from North Texas, UCLA, Iowa and Boston College before he committed.
Cary, who is 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, was a second-team all-district selection and a second team all-area pick along with being named as one of Texas Football Magazine’s top underclassmen for 2003.
Cary has been timed at 4.9 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a vertical leap of 23 inches, a bench-press of 300 pounds and can squat 450 pounds. He recorded 44 solo tackles, seven tackles for a loss and three sacks.
He is also already fully qualified with a 3.6 grade-point average and a score of 870 on the SAT.
