Baylor leads for La Marque star

Look out El Campo.
One of Texas’ top outside linebacker prospects could be cleared to play in this Saturday’s big state semifinal game between El Campo and La Marque. At least that’s the news that La Marque star James Francis hopes to report on Monday.

“I’m going tomorrow to the doctor,” Francis, who is 6-foot and 190 pounds, said. “I’m thinking they’re going to clear me to play. I’ve been injured with a broken left leg for seven weeks now. I’m ready to get back out there.”
So what will Francis bring if he makes it on the field?
“I’m going to bring more speed, more hits and more tackles,” he said. “I’m also more physical than a few of the other guys and that will be needed against El Campo. They like to run it right after you.”
Francis is a hot target on the recruiting front, despite the injury. Before the injury he was getting serious attention from Baylor, Iowa, LSU, Texas Tech and TCU. Now his list of suitors has trimmed to two teams.
“I’m still getting heavily recruited by Baylor and Colorado State,” he said. “Both of them have offered me.”
Francis said he’s going to visit Colorado State the first weekend that his team is not in the state playoffs, and that’s likely to be December 19 because La Marque is one of the state’s best. But the Bears look to have the upper hand now.
“I like Baylor,” he said. “It’s in the Big 12, and I like that a little more than the conference Colorado State is in. The Big 12 is a great conference.”
