Battle brewing between Iowa State and UNT for 3-Star Kyron White

KENNESAW, Ga. – After opening up his recruitment with an offer from Baylor following his sophomore season, it took a while for Kyron White’s recruitment to really get cooking, but as he heads into his senior season, things are looking much different.

White spent most of last weekend manning the secondary for Goon Squad in the Pylon 7-on-7 National Championships, and over the course of the past few months, has started to key-in on several of the teams that have made him a top priority. The timing couldn’t be better for said programs, as he’s hoping to make a few more visits to narrow things down soon.

“I’m trying to knock these visits out so I can get down to a Top 3,” he said. “Preferably, I’d like to make a commitment before my senior year. I don’t want to be fighting it during the season, I just want to focus on my season and get better.”

White was at North Texas earlier this month for a visit, and though the Mean Green are generally making more headway recruiting higher-caliber players these days, they’ll still have to hold off the efforts of other Power Five programs to nab a player like White.

“I’m considering Iowa State a lot and I like UNT, too,” he said. “I have a good connection with [North Texas coaches] (Troy) Reffett and (Seth) Littrell. But I like Iowa State and I’m trying to get up there in the next two weeks. I’ve been talking with Coach (Alex) Golesh and Coach (D.K.) McDonald about working on a time to get out there.”

IN HIS WORDS

On Iowa State

“I like the way they play defense,” he said. “They had some big wins last season beating TCU and Oklahoma, so they showed they’re on the rise. I’ve also been looking at their defensive scheme and I think that it fits me perfectly.”

On North Texas

“It’s just a real good family atmosphere out there,” he said. “Under Coach Littrell, they’re turning that program around too, and like Iowa State, they’re also a program on the rise. That’s still a place that you can actually put your fingerprints on the program and leave your legacy.”
