Baton Rouge LB taking things in stride

Baton Rouge (La.) Tara linebacker Cory Chappell is one of the top linebackers in southern Louisiana. He has already picked up two scholarship offers and drew several visitors to his school during the month of May.
"Texas Tech and New Mexico State are still my only two offers at this point," Chappell said. "Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Louisiana-Lafayette, Vanderbilt, Navy and New Mexico State all came by in May. I got calls from LSU, Illinois, Princeton and UCLA."

The 6-foot-2, 201-pound Chappell runs the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds, has a 245-pound bench press and a 365-pound squat.
"Right now Texas Tech and New Mexico State are up there because they have offered," Chappell said. "I like both the academic and athletic side of Princeton. I like the fact that LSU is right here at home, but overall that is not a major consideration for me."
As a junior Chappell collected 79 tackles and four sacks. He is an excellent academic student who carries a 4.0 GPA and a 27 ACT score.
"Being close to home is not a major factor for me, but overall it's a plus because my family is the main factor," Chappell said. "I really want to do something with engineering so I will be looking at that. I also want to play for a winning program."
Chappell says he likely won't be committing before the season, but it's not something that's totally out of the question.
"I probably won't decide before the season starts," Chappell said. "I'm not real sure yet when I will make my decision. My main thing is that I just don't want to close any doors."
