Barton close to big SEC offer

Michael Barton is on the verge of landing a huge SEC offer.
The Concord (Calif.) De La Salle inside linebacker said he talked with LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis on Wednesday and that Chavis told him that the Tigers plan to offer after Barton speaks with coach Les Miles.

"I still have to talk to the coach but I should be getting an offer from them this week," Barton said. "(Chavis) wants me to talk to coach Miles.
"He's a legendary coach pretty much. They're one of the top schools and I've watched them since I was little. It's definitely a great school. I would watch them all the time. It's almost like a dream school."
Washington, Oregon State and Washington State have also offered Barton, who last season shined on De La Salle's defense along with defensive end Dylan Wynn and linebacker Blake Renaud, who signed with Oregon State and Boise State, respectively.
LSU won't automatically be No. 1 on Barton's list but the Tigers do make a big impression on the 6-foot-1, 200-pound prospect and they should stick around throughout his recruitment.
"They'll be up there," Barton said. "As far as at the very top, I'm not sure yet because I want to go out there and visit but they'll definitely be up there.
"I've been getting a ton of mail from them. I've probably gotten more mail from them than any other school but this was the first time I had contact with the coaches. (Chavis) said they're really excited and they wanted me to call.
"I called (Wednesday) and we talked about school and football and family and they said they were impressed and that he wants me to talk to the head coach but they plan to offer me. They now want me to talk to the head coach."
Other things are happening for Barton, too. The De La Salle standout plans to visit Washington on Sunday for its junior day.
He's also planning a trip to Cal the following weekend for another junior day and then over spring break Barton wants to visit Oregon State and possibly Washington State.
