Oregon is the latest program to get involved with Barnett, rated as the fourth-best dual-threat quarterback and the No. 64 prospect in the 2015 class by Rivals.com.
Barnett, who's been committed to the Irish, since late November talked with Oregon assistant coach Scott Frost.
"They did offer (Saturday) morning," Barnett said.
"I don't talk to them very often. I probably talk to them twice a month, if that. There are occasional phone calls. My quarterback coach told me to give them a call so I did and they offered."
The four-star quarterback said Frost was respectful of his commitment to Notre Dame but also made it clear the Ducks want him in that offense. Barnett admits it is a good fit but he said at this point in his recruitment he's not planning to back off the Irish.
"(Frost) said he understands my commitment completely and he respects that," Barnett said. "He just wanted me to know they're very interested and they like my tape a lot. He said he thinks I could do big things there and that I fit in their offense ideally.
"He said they would like to make me a big recruit for them to try to bring over. They don't want to overly pressure me because I am committed but he said I'm a big recruit for them which meant a lot. He said they were going to offer me.
"I'm very respectful and very thankful for that offer. I do believe I fit in that offense very well just because the way they run it and how their quarterback plays. I'm very committed at this moment."
The Corona (Calif.) Santiago standout has landed some major offers through his junior season but his commitment to Notre Dame still sticks. His relationship with coach Brian Kelly is a big factor.
"A big part of it is the academics along with the football," Barnett said. "A degree from Notre Dame is very meaningful.
"I built a strong relationship with coach Kelly and that has been a big part of it as well. Just to have a big relationship with the head coach is a big part of it. I was able to establish a great relationship with coach Kelly right away and that's what turned me on to them so fast."
