Ranked as one of the top private school players in the state of Texas, former San Antonio Cornerstone Christian star Billy Barefield has made a move to one of the nation’s top overall prep programs.
Barefield, who is 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, is now at Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian, where he hopes to take his game to another level.
Barefield transferred after earning first-team all-district honors as a freshman, sophomore and a junior. He also earned Texas private school player of the year honors as a junior after throwing for 3,498 yards, rushing for 1,586 yards and accounting for 42 touchdowns.
“I moved to Evangel and will play quarterback,” Barefield, who projects as a Division I athlete because of his size, said. “I’m a scrambler and can throw on the run. I’m a true dual-threat.”
Barefield is getting early mail from Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Tennessee. He said the overall atmosphere of the school will be most important when it comes time to make a decision.
Barefield has a 4.46-second time in the 40-yard dash, a 250-pound bench-press and a 365-pound squat.
