Barber takes West Coast swing

Stephen Barber shined at the Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armour last weekend, taking home the Young Gun award for his performance at quarterback.
Before the event, though, the 2018 prospect from Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou got a head start on the recruiting process.

The 6-foot-3, 197-pound Barber made good use of his trip to the mainland, visiting Arizona, Arizona State and USC, before returning home. He also has drawn interest from Oregon during the spring evaluation period.
"Arizona was a beautiful campus," Barber said. "I like how it's a small town and a big football program. They recruit Hawaii well and that makes it feel like home. Anu (Solomon), I know him, and he was in Hawaii a couple weeks ago and I threw with him. He's a pretty cool guy."
Barber, who figures to draw plenty of eyes this fall as a sophomore, also liked what the Sun Devils had to offer.
"With Arizona State, I liked how big the campus was," Barber said. "I come from an island, so the campus size was great. All of it was new to me. I didn't get to talk to any coaches, though. I just took a tour, but I really liked it there."
Barber wrapped up the visits with a stop by Los Angeles to see USC and get a taste of life as a Trojan.
"At USC, I met with the tight ends coach (Marques) Tuiasosopo," Barber said. "He's a super nice guy and a former quarterback as well. He was giving me advice and it's a real nice school.
"I'm just excited to get the recruiting process going. It's going to be interesting going to camps to get exposure, but I want to work hard. I don't think I'll do much out here this year. Next summer, I'm planning on camping with a few schools."
