One of South Carolina’s top prospects has gone public with his college decision this weekend.
“I have committed to South Carolina,” said four-star Rock Hill Northwestern safety C.J. Barber. “I chose them because it’s a good environment where I can go in and play pretty early. I love the coaching staff there. It’s going to be fun playing for Lou Holtz, and we’ve got three other people from my town down there, so I know I’d fit in and feel comfortable.
"I'm glad to have this all over with, and I'm excited to be a Gamecock."
Barber (6-2, 215, 4.5) chose the Gamecocks over rival Clemson. He also had offers from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, among others.
“It was a hard decision, but South Carolina was the best place for me,” he said. “I sat down and talked with my parents about it on Thursday, and we all agreed that South Carolina was the best.”
Barber is rated the No. 13 safety in the Class of 2004.
