"I know it's my first visit," Baker told the paper. "But it felt like home."
Baker picked South Carolina over offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska and West Virginia.
Baker, the nation's No. 36 running back prospect, is commitment No. 16 for the Gamecocks in the class of 2007 and joins Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond County linebacker Melvin Ingram as one of two Gamecock commits this past weekend.
He is the second running back prospect in this year's class for South Carolina, joining Rivals250 running back prospect Brian Maddox of Anderson (S.C.) T.L. Hanna.
Baker's commit is the third for South Carolina wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. from the Jacksonville area. He joins defensive backs Jamire Williams and Arkee Smith, who both committed in early November.
Baker was not available for additional comment.
