Badgers make run at Irish commit

The firing of Notre Dame coach Tyrone Willingham pulled the rug out from under Fort Bend (Texas) Austin’s Kevin Washington.
“I was very shocked and disappointed,” he said.

“Now they left us kind of scrambling. It left us in a boat without a paddle. Right now I remain committed, but I am talking with other coaches to see what is out there.
“I really liked Notre Dame’s atmosphere. It is a beautiful campus and kind of small and homey. I really liked how the fans supported the team. As far as the new coach, it’s a different rumor every day.”
Washington has been offered by SMU, Wisconsin, Houston and Baylor and plans on taking an official visit to Wisconsin in January, but no date has been set in stone.
A consummate teammate, Washington moved from linebacker to quarterback for his senior season, which may have hurt his recruiting offers.
“I was a difficult switch but I respect my teammates and wanted to do anything I could to help us win,” he said. “I did alright at quarterback. I ran for like 300 yards and threw for 500.”
