B2G Elite Camp: Rosen being realistic

B2G Saturday: Top performers offense | Defense

WESTWOOD, Calif. -- Josh Rosen is honest.
The best situation for him, the most ideal, would be if four-star quarterback Keller Chryst committed anywhere other than Stanford, the Cardinal did not take a QB in this class and then he made his pledge there.
The 2015 quarterback from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, who'll be in the running for the top billing at his position, lives in the real world, though, and knows about Chryst's recent commitment, knows there will be stud quarterbacks wherever he goes, and that's why Stanford remains one of his favorites, if not the leader.
"Wherever I go, there's going to be competition," Rosen said at the B2G Elite Camp. "If a coach tells me otherwise then he's either lying or I'm in an extremely lucky situation. It would have persuaded me if Keller Chryst wasn't there, but it doesn't dissuade me that he is there."
Stanford is clearly one of the front-runners for Rosen even if the Cardinal has not officially offered. He recently camped there, loved it and is hopeful things continue to go well. California is also right there and with a quarterback-friendly coach in Sonny Dykes, the Golden Bears remain a serious option.
Earlier this week, the 2015 prospect, who looked great at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour in Chicago camped at USC and reports are that he and fellow 2015 QB Ricky Town from Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure performed well.
The Trojans have not offered Rosen or Town but those could come in the coming weeks. Both quarterbacks talked with USC passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Clay Helton on Friday.
"Coach Helton really wants to offer me but he has to convince coach (Lane) Kiffin," Rosen said. "He keeps trying to tell me to not to take offense, that it's a slow process, and if it was up to him he'd offer me. It just has to go through the process, but I should get one soon."
An offer from USC would be major for Rosen but it's believed Stanford and Cal would still remain high on his list because of the academic prestige coupled with the athletics at the Northern California institutions.
Still, Rosen said the Trojans would be highly considered as his recruitment continues.

"It's awesome to be the king of my area in a sense."
- Josh Rosen
"It's awesome to be the king of my area in a sense," Rosen said. "It's awesome to follow and hopefully surpass the footsteps of some of the greats that have stepped through those doors. There is such a high rate of NFL players coming out of that school it's a great path to be on."
Rosen has been offered by Cal, Duke, Michigan, Oregon State, Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Akron and Fresno State. He said new interest has come in from Penn State as well but he has not yet talked with the Nittany Lions' staff.
Damien MamaClick News and notes Here to view this Link. has become a close friend of five-star running back Joe MixonClick News and notes Here to view this Link. and the four-star offensive guard said the two are considering going to school together.
That's especially interesting because the public perception is that they have two different sets of favorite schools.
How it's going to get worked out is unknown, but Mama, from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, has talked about USC and UCLA as two favorites along with Alabama, Ole Miss, Ohio State and now Texas A&M since it has gotten involved.
Mixon, from Oakley (Calif.) Freedom, has talked highly of UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma and Wisconsin, among others. Aside from UCLA, the two lists don't have much in common.
Another theory was floated this weekend at the B2G Elite Camp, but Mama seemed to throw cold water on it: Former ASU commit Jaleel Wadood is expected to commit in the coming days, with California the favorite.
If Wadood commits to the Golden Bears, that could draw his high school teammate Mama and since Mixon is from that area, it could make sense he ends up in Berkeley playing with his friend from the camp circuit.
Mixon is close friends with El Cerrito, Calif., four-star linebacker Derik Calhoun (who is also expected to commit within days) and Cal is one of his three finalists, along with Adarius Pickett and Michael Lazarus, who both have Cal offers.

Palmdale, Calif., three-star running back Demario Richard wants to narrow his list soon, but with more schools offering all the time he's having a difficult time doing it.
Watch out for Washington in his recruitment. Richard recently was supposed to spend only a day there on an unofficial visit but it turned into a longer trip because he enjoyed it so much. The Huskies should be a contender for his services.

The four-star who was arguably the top receiver at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge has close connections to UCLA coach Jim Mora, plus he's been to Los Angeles numerous times, so the Bruins will remain in contention.
Louisiana kids often go to LSU if recruited, so that's going to be an influence. At Arkansas, Dupre is a second cousin of receivers coach Michael Smith and he's expected to visit Fayetteville sometime in July.
USC commit Austin Maloata was one of the top performers Saturday at the B2G Elite Camp and while still committed to the Trojans, there are definitely some options the Corona (Calif.) Centennial defensive lineman will consider.
[ RELATED: B2G Friday's action]
His close friend and teammate, four-star offensive lineman Viane Talamaivao, is committed to Alabama and Maloata said he's heard a little from the Crimson Tide, but not as much as he would like. Ole Miss continues to be seriously involved and Maloata said he's even taking a closer look at Washington State.

San Jose State is the only offer for White but that could soon change, especially after he worked out at all three schools this summer.
Something stood out about all the places so White doesn't have any favorites but the Cowboys, Ducks and Huskies have to hold at least a slight lead since he chose those programs to camp at this summer.
To paraphrase Iman Marshall, he said he does not want to make any early commitments, especially if USC and UCLA are two of his favorites, because coaching changes could happen and he wants to see how everything plays out after this season.
The 2015 cornerback from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly said he wants to see about the future of USC coach Lane Kiffin and UCLA coach Jim Mora. NFL talk still surrounds Mora, so "Biggie" is going to sit back and take his time.
File this one under refreshing: In the recruiting landscape, where every player not ranked No. 1 is considered underrated, there is LSU commit Jacory WashingtonClick Marshall seemed to jell with a bunch of LSU commits during the B2G Elite weekend and that might plant a seed in the 2015 recruit's mind, but the Tigers have not offered, so it cannot be considered a serious option. Here to view this Link.. Washington admits he had a bad weekend at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge and doesn't deserve to be the top-rated tight end in the country -- right now.
The Westlake, La., four-star knew Dalton Schultz was ranked ahead of him and admitted Schultz deserved the top billing, but said he'll be back in top form and is gunning for No. 1 for the rest of the summer and into his senior season.
"I'll be the first to admit I had a bad week in Chicago," Washington said. "A bad week. But I'll be back. I'll be back on top."
