Aztecs still Campbells only offer

Austin (Texas) Westlake running back Tyler Campbell continues to hold just one scholarship offer, but he's hopeful that will change.

"San Diego State is still the only scholarship offer I have," the 6-foot-1, 182-pound Campbell said. "I'm not getting too worked up over it or anything. It will be fine."
The son of former Texas Longhorn and Houston Oiler believes he knows why the offers aren't rolling in for him.
"Most schools think I'm already going to Texas," he said. "Something along those lines. Or it's just a matter of time before I commit to them. But, that isn't the case. Texas isn't really recruiting me that hard at this point. I tell every coach I can tell, that I'm not locked onto Texas. I imagine as time goes along, the other schools will see me play this fall and find out that I'm not committed to Texas, or anyone, yet and decide to make their moves then."
Campbell is also being recruited by Missouri, Arizona, LSU and Notre Dame.
"I know a little bit about Missouri's program," he said. "They have a really good young quarterback they are building off of. Arizona's coach (Mackovic) was at Texas before Coach (Mack) Brown. So, I know some about his types of teams. LSU and Notre Dame have been in touch with me too throughout the spring."
Campbell is trying to prove he's more than Earl's son, although he isn't trying to shed the label.
"I'm proud he's my dad," Campbell said. "He accomplished a lot on the football field. There is a lot of pressure being Earl Campbell's son. So many people are expecting me to be just like him since I’m his son. I just give all I can when I play and the rest will take care of itself."
Campbell has tried to mold his game after that of his father.
"I'm more of an power runner like he was," Campbell said. "It's a power game. I can run it out if I need to, but I think I can also take it at someone and come through just fine."
As a junior, Campbell rushed for 1,291 yards and 15 touchdowns.
"I hope I can improve on those numbers this fall," he said. "That would be great. If it doesn't happen, and we keep winning, then it doesn't matter. I want the team to have success first, then we'll go from there."
