Aztecs get great potential in Fifita

The San Diego Aztecs are having a fantastic year along the recruiting front. Aztec head coach Tom Craft and company was able to secure the commitment from a player with tremendous upside in George Fifita (6-4, 230, 4.9) from Lake Balboa (Calif.) Birmingham.
The ceiling for Fifita is exceedingly high. He just turned 17. That means he won’t turn 18 until near the end of his freshman season at SDSU.

In an earlier interview with Birmingham head coach Ed Croson he had this to say about his star athlete. “George is very strong. He lifted 175 pound snatch, which is a huge number for someone his and body type. George has very long arms so he has to push the weight farther than a guy with shorter arms.”
“George could play either tight end or defensive end on the D-I level,” Croson said. “He’s very quick off the edge and is a terrific blocking tight end. George has great hands but hasn’t had the opportunity to show them off yet. He will get his chances his senior season.”
Fifita wants to play defensive end on the next level, but it’s not a big deal where he plays as long as he gets on the field.
It was thought that BYU may have had the inside track for his services because of his affiliation with the LDS church.
Oregon State was also in the picture.
