Austin Joyner commits to UW

CARSON, Calif. -- Austin Joyner certainly hopes the third time is the charm.

The four-star athlete from Marysville (Wash.) Marysville-Pilchuck made a third verbal commitment in his recruitment, picking Washington on Sunday during the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl at the StubHub Center.
"I'm taking my talents to the Huskies," Joyner said.
"It's close to home. My family can come out to watch me. Everybody I grew up with can support me still. It's 40 minutes away from where I live. It's nice, everything about it."
It was a whirlwind process for the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Joyner, who is rated No. 9 among athletes in the 2015 class.
Joyner committed to Washington in November of 2013, but then re-opened his recruitment when a majority of the coaching staff, including head coach Steve Sarkisian and recruiting coordinator Peter Sirmon, left for USC.
Joyner was also previously committed to Washington State, but backed off that stance last month before visiting the Huskies. He and his father cited the firings of defensive coordinator Mike Breske and Eric Russell as considerable factors.
The Gatorade State Player of the Year officially visited Washington the weekend of Dec. 5 and Boise State on Dec. 12. He was tentatively scheduled to take a trip to Washington State on Jan. 23, but said earlier this week that was no longer the plan given that he had already seen Pullman multiple times.
"There's no need for me to go see what else is out there because then I'm not really committed," Joyner said.
Joyner chose the Huskies over seven other scholarship offers, including Arizona, Arkansas and Colorado.
