Auburn offer shakes up Shivers' recruitment

West Virginia’s reign at the top of Shaun Shivers’ recruitment is, at least for now, over.

The class-of-2018 running back has has Mountaineers out in front for months. Shivers has a deep and longstanding relationship with the WVU staff and thinks he’ll shine in the offense. None of that has changed. His offer list, on the other hand, has.

And that, it seems, is the reason for the shift in talking points.

“I don’t have a leader anymore,” Shivers said on Tuesday. “There’s too much going on. I’m just looking at teams and looking at the offenses.”

Shivers has a cousin that attended Auburn, but the family tie doesn’t have as much to do with his interest as his interest in the system. Shivers says he intends to visit Auburn this summer but is yet to set a date for the trip.

One of the fastest prospects in the Sunshine State, Shivers recently finished second in the 200 meters at the Florida state track meet.

WHAT’S NEXT: This summer, Shivers will attend a recruiting bus tour with member so his highs school team. The tour has planned stops at Georgia, Georgia Southern, South Carolina, Clemson and others.

IN HIS WORDS: “I like the offense they run over at Auburn,” Shivers said. “I like how I fit in there. I like the running back history."

RIVALS REACTION: A recent offer from Auburn impacted Shivers’ recruitment. That much is undeniable. He declines to name a leader at the time being, but the Tigers seem to occupy that space. West Virginia is still very much involved as things stand, but Shivers’ recruitment seems poised to evolve as more offers arrive.
