Auburn, Bama battle for in-state TE

Three-star Prattville (Ala.) tight end/defensive end Travis McCall has added some new official visit dates to his list.
“I’ve added Alabama and Auburn,” he said. “I’ll be going to Auburn on Jan. 16. That’s the date I had for Clemson, but we’re going to change that now. I’m not sure when it will be. I’m going to Alabama on Jan. 23. My other visit is Jan. 9 for Louisville.

“Those are pretty much my top four. I don’t know if I’ll take a fifth visit.”
Is there a leader?
“I’d say mainly between Alabama and Auburn,” McCall said. “I just feel most comfortable with them. They’re the ones that feel like home.”
Alabama was thought to be the early leader, but has picked up two other tight end commitments from in-state players – Nick Walker and Trent Davidson. He could, however, also project at fullback or defensive end.
Asked if the Auburn coaching controversy would have any impact on his decision, he said: “No. That don’t bother me at all. I think coach Tuberville will be there for a while. He’s a good coach.”
Tigers coach Joe Whitt made an in-home visit on Tuesday. He plans to play host to Alabama’s Paul Randolph on Thursday.
McCall (6-2, 235, 4.78) is rated the No. 9 tight end in the nation by Rivals.com, thanks to his reputation as a devastating blocker. He helped lead Prattville to a 12-1 record this season.
Academically, he maintains a 2.5 GPA and has scored an 18 on the ACT.
