Attention growing for Houston-area TE

Some get noticed at camps. Some get noticed on tape. Some get noticed the old fashioned way, on the practice field.
Houston (Texas) North Shore's Earl Mitchell is a versatile athlete. Instead of the Kordell Stewart "slash" tag, Mitchell is more like a hyphen.

"He's the hot biscuit right now," North Shore coach David Aymond said. "The word is out on him and he is the talk within recruiting circles around Houston. Some coaches like him at tight end, some like him at full back, some like him as a shade defensive lineman.
"When it's all said and done, I really believe he's a tight end," he said.
North Shore and Aymond have had some tight ends in their day. Dajleon Farr will be going to Miami this summer while Bubba Moses will enter his fifth year at Oklahoma as a returning starter.
"Earl plays hard and gives outstanding effort in practice and in the games," Aymond said. "Coaches like his low base and the pop in his hips. He is showing recruiters what a crushing blocker he is during spring practice. He's a better run blocker than Dajleon (Farr)."
Oklahoma State and Indiana have offered, but word is traveling fast on Mitchell. Arizona is close to offering among other Division I schools.
"Coaches who see him in pads and the way he practices are blown away," Aymond said. "He is drawing a lot of attention right now."
Mitchell also reached the regional track meet in the shot put and discus for the Mustang track team.
