Athletic QB picks up two new offers

FORT WORTH, Texas – Arlington (Texas) Bowie quarterback Christian Mathews is a unique prospect with good size and athleticism. He already has several offers on the table and on Friday afternoon he put his passing skills on display at the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp at TCU.
Mathews took a lot out of the experience.

"It was a real good experience," Mathews said. "It was my first time doing a straight quarterback camp so I learned a lot. The under center stuff was good because we go straight out of shotgun at my school."
The Elite 11 event is geared most favorably towards the pure pocket passers. While Mathews has the ability to make the throws from the pocket, he separates himself by what he can do with the ball in his hands. He also has a lot of ability throwing the ball outside of the pocket.
"I really like throwing on the run," he said. "That's probably the thing I've been working on the most."
His athleticism has garnered him offers from schools such as Kansas, Louisville and Tulsa and recently, two more schools can be added to his list.
"Recently I just got two from Michigan and Utah," he said. "Michigan I know they got that new offense and a new coach so I'll be looking at them. I also like Kansas and Tulsa. The Michigan offer came in [Thursday]. They verbally offered and they said one should be coming in the mail. I liked it a lot. My dad liked it. My family liked it."
The offensive philosophies of both Utah and Michigan speak volumes of the mold of quarterback that Mathews is best suited for but he insists that he is versatile as well.
"I'm just looking for a college," he said. "Whoever will take me, I can adjust to anything."
Mathews has the size and ability to play more than just quarterback on the next level but it looks as though he will have ample opportunity to stay under center.
"Everyone is looking at me as a quarterback," he said. "The only one that is looking at me as an athlete is Texas Tech. They want me as a wide receiver. I definitely want to play quarterback."
In the near future, Mathews has plans to attend camp at Louisville and is pondering the Tulsa camp as well. In the meantime, he will be lifting weights and throwing more footballs getting ready for a big senior campaign.
