At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, Daniel Coats has the size to play linebacker or even tight end in college while possessing the speed to play defensive back or wide receiver. That combination of power and finesse is beginning to earn him increased interest from some of the nations' best college football programs.
He has four offers - USC, Colorado, Utah, and Utah State and he is hearing from Michigan, Nebraska, Washington, Florida State and others.
As a junior in 2000, Coats did it all for Northridge High School. He racked up 1078 yards on 44 receptions (24.5 yards per reception) and 12 touchdowns in helping his team to a 9-2 record and a Class 5A state title. As a free safety on defense, Coats tallied 78 tackles and 3 interceptions. He was named the Class 5A (state’s largest class) Most Valuable Player and the Gatorade State Player of the Year in Utah.
When asked for a list of favorite schools, Coats said, “Right now, I will probably visit Michigan, Washington, North Carolina State, USC, BYU, and Nebraska. I will take all 5 visits after the season and won’t decide until I take all of my trips.”
