Very early in the recruiting process Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood Catholic athlete Nate Smith claimed an offer from South Carolina.
While the Gamecocks have not had as much contact with Smith as some other schools lately, the 5-foot-11, 176-pound athlete is still claiming the verbal offer from the Gamecocks is there if he wants it.
Smith doesn't seem to be in any hurry to jump on it, though he still claims interest in the school.
"Toledo, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas and a lot more," Smith responded when asked which schools have been showing interest lately.
Don't take that as a list of favorites. Smith denies having that.
There's no consensus on what position Smith will play at the next level. Schools have been recruiting him as a wide receiver, free safety or strong safety.
"I'm looking for a BCS team and I'm looking for playing time," Smith explained. "I want them to put me in a hard position so I can make a play. I'm looking to be a leader as soon as I step on the field."
Smith said he doesn't have any plans to visit any schools this spring, though that could change. He does not expect to attend camps this summer.
