ATH Collins has PSU on top

To say Milan Collins was impressed at Penn State's Junior Day would be an understatement.

"I don't have a favorite yet but compared to the unofficial visits I've taken they are number one right now over Maryland, Duke and UCLA," said the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder out of Forestville (Md.) Bishop McNamara. "I saw some great things. I really liked the academics and (defensive backs} coach [John] Butler."

Collins, who is listed as an athlete, remains open to playing any position that will help the team.

"They are recruiting me as a defensive back but I'll play any position that will get me on the field," he said. "If that means playing defensive back, I'll play defensive back. If I have to play wide receiver, I'll play wide receiver. If they need me at quarterback, I'll play that too."

The academics and the new coaching staff made a big impression on Collins.

"They had representatives from the academic department. They were talking about how I can finish undergrad in three years then start med school while still playing," explained Collins. "It was great meeting all the new coaches. They're looking to move in the right direction and keep the tradition of Penn State. Also, I've known Larry Johnson since my freshman year and it was nice that we had that relationship before the recruiting process started."

Like many other people, Beaver Stadium baffled Collins.

"They took us around the campus then the field and locker room then to the meeting rooms and the classrooms," he said. "The stadium is crazy. I got chills walking out of the tunnel as we walked out. It was also pretty cool talking to guys from different areas."

Collins talked about some of his upcoming visits.

"I have a chance to go to Maryland next week for their Junior Day. Hopefully I come away with the same mind set next week," Collins said. "I think I'm going to visit Kansas State also but I'm not sure. I haven't had a chance to go up there yet but I know they had a successful year."

Collins has early offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, East Carolina, Buffalo and UMass.
